Welcome back students to the 2019 spring semester.
I hope you all had a restful winter break. In the upcoming semester, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will participate in the following assignments: self-portrait drawing, still-life drawing, art critique, sculpture, collage, painting, color theory and symbolism in the artistic process. Additionally all classes will continue to grow their personal art portfolios for future art contests around the community.
Art Club Art Club meets on the following Tuesdays of each month. Schedules have been sent home with Art Club members.

SCHEDULE AND ATTENDANCE:
Art Club will meet approximately every 4 weeks after school from 3:30 to 5:00. Meetings will be held in room 132 after dismissal and will adhere to the following schedule. Students are encouraged to bring an afterschool snack.

Note: It is very important that your child is picked up promptly at 5:00 p.m. Please be mindful that late pick-ups could result in removal from the club. In the event that Art Club is canceled, we will do our very best to reschedule our meeting at another time.

A big congratulations goes to McKenzie R.. Her work was selected for the Shelby County School District Holiday Card Contest. Her art was featured on the Curriculum and Instruction Holiday Card.
Thanks, also, to all students who have entered in this years Scholastic Art Contest. Best of luck to you all! Winners will be announced in late January. GMS is very proud of you!

6th, 7th, 8th Grade Art Supply List:
- #2 wooden pencil(s)
-- 1 drawing sketch book 5”x 8.5”(or one size larger)
- 1 pack of at least 8 broad tipped washable markers in original colors
- 1 pack of at least 24 crayons (Crayola is the best and cheapest at Wal-Mart)
- 1 glue bottle
- 1 glue stick
- 2 black Sharpie permanent markers – fine and ultra fine (felt tip)
- 1 hand held pencil sharpener
- 1 small art box or art bag with name on the outside
- 1 box of Kleenex
- #2 wooden pencil(s)
- Pink pearl eraser and/or kneaded eraser
- Roll of Paper towels
All supplies can be found at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Wal-Mart, Target and the Dollar Tree. Wal-Mart’s prices typically have the lowest back-to-school prices on Crayola and Sharpie products. *Hobby Lobby has an online coupon for 40% off of 1 full priced item (1 coupon per day). This is recommended for the purchase of the drawing pencils and/or sketchbooks.
